How to find DNS on computer
When you discuss computers, internet and networks you normally come across the word IP and DNS. IP stands for Internet Protocol and DNS stands for Domain Name System. Computers work on a set of numerals and hence IP addresses also work on numbers .
Suppose your IP address looks like “115.117.148.5”. It is not possible to remember and associate with so many numeric digits . DNS converts the IP address digits into alphabetic characters and makes it easy for every one to understand and use. This alphabetic name looks like www.name.com. This is the way we memorize and use web addresses. Usually computers are connected to internet through a DNS server.
How to find IP address of your primary and secondary DNS server using MS Windows?
1. You have to use command prompt.
2. Click on ‘Start’ menu, go to ‘Run’.
3. Then you can see a small text box, type ‘cmd’ (don’t type the quotation marks) in the box, against ‘open’. Now click on ‘OK’

4. A new dialogue box opens for you. Type ‘ipconfig/all’ (don’t type the quotation marks) at the command prompt and press ‘Enter’.
5. With this a list shows up that provides details about your IP address, your primary DNS server etc. If a primary server is not listed and you only see ‘DNS server’ in the list then it means that you have a dynamic IP address. Having a dynamic IP address implies that every time you access the internet you get a new IP address. This is common for many internet service providers. You would have to get in touch with the internet service provider to find the range of servers they use as DNS servers
