Travel with your pet

You have a pet at home and can’t leave it behind when you need to go for an international trip . How will you cute little animal survive without you not being around? Even pets travel internationally but for their travel you need to make some important preparations . All countries have diverse rules for bringing and taking animals to and from the country. If you plan your pet’s travel properly then you would not have any issues and have a happy trip with your pet.

Documents

The moment you plan to take your pet along, you should get in touch with your destination embassy or consulate for information on pet import. Essential requirements would be international health certificate of the pet, pet passport etc. You must also find out what documents your country would ask for when you return to your country. Most probably you would have to have a valid rabies vaccination certificate.

Veterinarian certification

Get your pet checked up by your veterinary and obtain the certificates that you would need to furnish in the destination and country and back in your country too. You may be required to get your pet’s health certificate certified by USDA. This certificate should be issued not more than two weeks prior to your departure.

Microchip

Immigration officers need to compare the information on your pet’s microchip to the contents of your veterinary documents. So you should get your pet a microchip number. 9 to 10 digit microchip numbers are common in America but other countries ask for a 15 digit microchip number. I would suggest you better get a 15 digit microchip number.

Pet’s immunity

If you are traveling to a rabies free country like England, Australia, Japan etc then that country would require a blood titre certificate for you pet that would prove that the animal is immune to diseases like rabies.

Airline

While you are in the process of finding out the required documents and certificates, you should also get in touch with the airlines that you would be taking. Properly inquire about the requirements. The airlines would also require certain documents. You might need to buy a pet carrier. Make your arrangements prior toyour travel date.

Hotel

You should also contact your hotel or accommodation where you would put up so that they are able to specify the documentation they would require of you for your pet. This is an equally important aspect because the hotel is as important for you as getting entry into the country.

Now that you are all set to travel with your pet keep in mind that you would have to mind your pet’s actions. You love animals but that does not mean that other people also do. You will have to keep your pet with you and don’t let it loiter here and there. Also keep your pet’s collar with ID tags on at all times.
